The barely launched 2025 club World Cup, FIFA is already starting to prepare for the next edition, scheduled for 2029. Several countries have already expressed interest in hosting this competition, including the United States, Brazil, Spain and Morocco. But a new pretender turns the game upside down: Qatar.

According to
The Guardianthe small state of the Gulf wishes to again organize a large football event, like the Arab Cup of Nations and the World Cup which he had welcomed in 2021 and 2022. However, as for the two competitions, the heating of the Qatari tournament in winter would be necessary to avoid hot weather, which could complicate programming and is not unanimous within FIFA.

Several applications

Another challenge for Qatar is competition with a possible Spanish-Morocco joint candidacy for 2029, in preparation for the 2030 World Cup that these countries will organize together with Portugal. However, for the moment, Spain and Morocco each prefer to submit their own separate file, which could promote the international body in their choice.

In addition, some members of FIFA are seduced by the candidacy of Brazil. The South American country shows an increasing enthusiasm for this competition, with high-performance clubs and an enthusiastic audience. This file is therefore also a serious competitor to host the event.

FIFA takes the time to study all proposals before deciding. The choice will have to reconcile climatic, logistical and sports ambitions, while the Club World Cup is still looking to establish itself as a major meeting on the international calendar.
