It is a small earthquake in Spanish refereeing. This Thursday, the Spanish Football Federation announced by a statement its decision to dismiss Luis Medina Cantalejo from the Presidency of the Technical Committee of Arbitrators, thus ending almost four years of mandate. This choice, indicated by the new president of the RFEF, Rafael Louzán, also leads to the departure of the entire management of the CTA. The new structure will be unveiled on July 2.

The departure of Medina Cantalejo, originally supported by Luis Rubiales, intervenes in a context of growing tensions, especially with Real Madrid, which regularly demanded its resignation. His mandate was marked by the scandal of the Negreira case, a case having seriously tainted the image of Spanish arbitration. Louzán now wishes to establish a new governance model, potentially in the form of an independent business in which RFEF, Laliga, and other football players would participate.
