A decisive week for the future of the broadcast of Ligue 1. After several weeks of discussions, two production companies spend this important oral oral on Monday, June 23 to take charge of the future channel 100 % Ligue 1. According to information from RMC Sport, 21 production (team group) and Mediawan are in the running.
The proposals of the two customers cover all the editorial needs of the chain, from the content of the magazines to the organization of multiplex, including covering and staff. The final choice is expected in the coming hours. Jérôme Cazadieu, current marketing director of LFP Média, will take control of this new channel.
Regarding broadcasting, the league has decided: Canal+ will not be a codiffuser, but a simple distributor, as are the Internet, Amazon or Dazn providers. Canal hoped to recover the broadcasting of the Sunday evening poster, in exchange for its past damage, but its requests were deemed excessive. As for Dazn, who wanted to manage the entire channel for 110 million euros over two years, his proposal was dismissed. The League will still receive 85 million euros in compensation from the British platform, as agreed.
Always in the equation
In terms of retransmission, eight of the nine games of each day in Ligue 1 will be broadcast on this new channel. The ninth will remain at Bein Sports. The Qatari channel retains the Saturday match at 5 p.m. for 78.5 million euros per year. It could even add an additional 20 million in the form of sponsorship with the clubs, even if the agreement has not yet been finalized.
LFP Média therefore advances towards a centralized offer. The idea is to stabilize the economic model of the championship after the turbulence lived with Mediappro or complicated relationships with Canal+. “We want the price to remain accessible”assured Nicolas de Tavernost in after foot on RMC, promising a subscription at less than 20 euros per month. The League now wants to turn the page and regain control of its TV rights.
