In a few months, the story between Xavi Simons and the RB Leipzig experienced ups and downs. It all started well when the Dutchman had arrived in Germany in the form of a loan, after a good experience at the PSV Eindhoven (22 goals, 11 assists in 48 games in all competitions, editor's note). In his first season with the Bundesliga stable, the former FC Barcelona player had also impressed the observers. Indeed, he had finished the year with a 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 matches in all competitions. Good news for PSG, which again lent it to Leipzig last summer before selling it definitively this winter against a nice check for € 80 million.

A “diva” pushed towards the exit

A beautiful added value from Parisians. For its part, the German club was happy to be able to keep a player followed by what is best in Europe. But very quickly, Leipzig changed his mind. Last March, Bild revealed that it was no longer going at all between the middle of 22 years and the stable of Bundesliga. In addition to his expected level of play which was not up to his status in the team, the German media revealed that his behavior as “diva” annoyed everyone behind the scenes, including his teammates. Indeed, it would be very difficult to advise or reprimand him because of his enormous self -confidence. In addition, the player and his entourage have canceled several operations with sponsors or media.

In the process, some members of the management have informed to Bild Whether they had advised the club to recruit him permanently or not put as much on him. But they were not listened to. A few months later, we reached the point of no return between Leipzig and Xavi Simons, who finished the season with 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 matches in all competitions. A few weeks ago, he had opened the door to a departure during an interview with Sky Germany. “I am still a young player, I have a lot of dreams – and the club knows it. But for the moment, the most important thing for me is to play well in the next games. Then we have international matches, and after that, we sit down and see what's going on. ”

Doors close and its price decreases

And it's visibly seen since The Athletic Assures that the midfielder clearly asked for his departure this summer 2025. For his part, Leipzig, who had a complicated year and who will not play the Champions League next season, will not hold him back. At first, the German club, which considers that the time has come to separate, had set its price at € 100 million. Then, the German press spoke of a price drop at € 80 million. This Tuesday, The Athletic explains that the RB Leipzig is expecting proposals of at least € 70 million. A new drop in prices for a club that has invested a lot about him. Which is a disaster. On the other hand, management will not accept offers of a lower amount, whatever happens. Because it doesn't come forward that much for Xavi Simons.

The Dutchman, who wants to play the Champions League next season, has seen prestigious exit doors close. Indeed, he was in the viewfinder of Manchester City. But it was plan B in the event of failure of the Rayan Cherki file, which finally signed. Same thing on the side of Liverpool, which will not follow up on this file with the expected signature of Florian Wirtz. Two hard blows for the former PSG, which is also followed by Manchester United. Only problem, the Red Devils will not play European cuts the coming season. Which was a goal for Xavi Simons. A player who hopes that the market will come to life a little more this summer to take off. In the opposite case, staying in Leipzig could be an option … which would not help the player or the club.
