One year before the 2026 World Cup, it's not just the World Cup that started on Saturday evening in the United States. This is also the case with the Gold Cup.

This Championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean also started on Saturday evening, with the victory of Mexico against Panama (3-2). There are 16 nations, including the usual favorites (the United States and Mexico), but also Saudi Arabia, invited by the organizers, and Guadeloupe.

The French archipelago is affiliated with Concacaf, and can therefore participate in this Gold Cup (but not in the World Cup). Gwada Boys have even become regulars in the competition since their first participation in 2007.

Who says Guadeloupe football necessarily says Jocelyn Angloma. The former OM player, winner of the Champions League in 1993, was the spearhead of the selection which reached the semi-finals of the Gold Cup in 2007. He was then 41 years old, and the former side had even scored two goals, one of which was in the quarter-finals against Honduras (2-1).

Jocelyn Anglooma is now the coach of Guadeloupe, who is preparing his sixth participation in the Gold Cup, the third consecutive. On the program, three meetings in group C, against Panama, Jamaica and Guatemala.

With two Ligue 1 players

It is with a group of 26 players that Guadeloupe will approach this Gold Cup, with two weight reinforcements, Christopher Jullien (Montpellier) and Yvann Mason (Saint-Etienne). But Jocelyn Angloma is mainly counting on a collective, in which one can include his son Johan Anglooma, midfielder.

“It's a great competition La Gold Cup, it will be the third time for me and it was really close to my heart to be there,” said Jocelyn Anglooma before departure for the United States. All the players are concerned, we were able to train in very good conditions, and there I think we will refine all this once you get there. We prepared, we saw a lot of videos on our opponents. Our young people adapt quickly enough and for us it is all bonus to have a complete group at all levels. »»
