The club World Cup this summer will mark the start of Xabi Alonso's reign at the head of Real Madrid, after his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

The former galactic replaced Carlo Ancelotti, although this is not the club plan.

In the last weeks of the season, it has become evident that Encelotti would not remain in Real Madrid until the end of his contract, which was to expire in 2026. His post was initially planned for Alonso, but according to El Confidencial (via Sport), it was planned that the Spaniard will take the reins of the club after the Club World Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti left too early

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was the instigator of this decision, believing that a failed club World Cup would add premature and useless pressure on Alonso for the start of the 2025-2026 season. This is why the Merengues wanted Santiago Solari to head this summer tournament in the United States.

Solari said no

But as the report reveals, Solari declined the offer, which deeply irritated Perez. And this is not the only proposal that the Argentinian, acting coach of Real Madrid on several occasions, refused, refusing the opportunity to take charge of the women's team.

Consequently, it was quickly decided that Alonso would direct Real Madrid for the Club World Cup. And even if it involves the risk of a bad campaign at the start of the season, it is possible that a successful tournament in the United States offers an initial dynamic.
