Serie A: An investigation open against a goalkeeper for illegal Paris

A few weeks before the outcome of the Lucas Paqueta trial in England, another sports betting case surfaced, this time in Italy. Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is the subject of an investigation for criminal association in order to defraud a bookmaker: according to the Udine prosecution, the goalkeeper was voluntarily warned to win the bettors. The investigation, it is said, relates to the series of Serie in Lazio-Urdinese, disputed in Rome on March 11, 2024.

As reported by the Udine police headquarters, the investigations, led by the Udine prosecution, were opened after the discovery of anomalies in the bets placed during the match. They notably focused on warning the Nigerian porter for time saving in the 63rd minute. In the case examined, bets were registered, the total amount of which amounted to more than 120,000 euros, mainly linked to bets placed in fixed points located in the province of Udine.
