Failing to win a second nations league after the coronation against Spain in 2021 (with Karim Benzema as a star player at the time), Didier Deschamps can be satisfied with the victory of the French team during the match for 3rd place against Germany (0-2), Sunday afternoon in Stuttgart. Basic by a skilled mannschaft in the game but catastrophic in front of the goal, the Blues made the nets tremble by Kylian Mbappé (45th) and Michael Olise (84th).

One year before the 2026 World Cup in North America, for its latest major competition at the head of the tricolor selection, Deschamps offers a 107th victory as a coach. Captain of France World Champion 98, “La Dèche” makes a national legendary coach since he is the second coach with the most victory with the same selection.

Deschamps will try to get closer to the victories record holder with the same national team, namely Joachim Löw, winner 124 times. Didier Deschamps is 2018 world champion and was in the final of the 2022 World Cup as well as Euro 2016, while his German alter ego has a World Cup in 2014, and a Euro final in 2008.

To compete in the World Cup 26 co-organized by Canada, the United States and Mexico (but fully played in the US from the quarter-finals), France will have to win its playoff group at the expense of Ukraine, Iceland and Azerbaijan at the international September, October and November windows.

Deschamps, coach of the Blues since 2012 with a 107 victories, 34 draws and 28 losses, is now ahead of Oscar Tabarez, winner of 106 matches with Uruguay, for a semi-final of the World Cup in 2010 and an American COPA in 2011.
