Pep Guardiola's career seems to have known only the summits. At the head of Manchester City, Barça and Bayern, he won everything: Championships, Cups, Champions League … But the Catalan coach, renowned for his thirst for requirement, never hid that football has never been enough to fall asleep on his laurels. Today, when he has just chained his ninth season to City, a question burns the lips: what challenge can Guardiola motivate?

The call of the international dream

For the first time, the interested party engaged on what drives him behind the scenes. Its ambition: to live the intensity of a large international tournament, at the head of a selection. “I would love to participate in a World Cup, a Euro, a Copa America”,
he said during an interview with the Reuters agency. At 54, Guardiola never tasted the drunkenness of the selection benches, he who nevertheless worn 47 times the jersey of Spain as a player.

Nevertheless, the time of the big jump has not yet struck. Guardiola has just extended until 2027 with Manchester City, extending an already exceptional story. He himself admits that he could have left last summer, but that the circumstances and his attachment to the club convinced him to continue. “I didn't want to drop City”, he explains, faithful to a philosophy of total engagement.

If Pep Guardiola flourishes in the regularity of club football, he now suggests an open door: that of the great international thrill. The rest of his career could well be written, one day, under the colors of a selection. And this quest, far from devaluing his incredible course, speaks volumes about the intact passion of the Catalan coach for his sport.
