Real Madrid will go to the FIFA club World Cup in the coming days, with Xabi Alonso for its first test.

The regular season 2024/25 having not seen Carlo Ancelotti winning a trophy, the Italian has since joined the Brazilian club to take up a new challenge. Alonso was quickly installed, the former midfielder being concentrated on the coming competition in the United States.

Real Madrid will take a solid team in North America, with the financial advantages offered as a major attraction, as well as the pressure for Alonso to start on the wheel hats.

The new recruits Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen will be on the plane for Miami, while Alonso finalizes his plans after the injury of Thibaut Courtois, number 1.

Injury by Thibaut Courtois before traveling to the Club World Cup

Courtois chose to return to the Belgian national team in early 2025 after his exile from the Red Devils. The Merengues goalkeeper immediately resumed his holder in the Rudi Garcia team before the two qualification games for the 2026 World Cup in June.

However, a club press release confirmed its absence due to a sacroiliite (back/pelvic problem), but information from Diario AS indicates that its participation in the Club World Cup is not compromised.

The Real Madrid World Cup calendar

The enlarged competition will start on June 14 with the first Real Madrid match against Al Hilal on June 18. The group's games will follow against Pachuca will follow on June 22 and RB Salzburg on June 26, before the potential start of a direct elimination phase on June 30/July 1.

The majority of Alonso's workforce being on the international trip the first week of June, Real Madrid did not confirm its travel plans. Some players could go to the United States separately, depending on their international commitments.
