They were all of the European adventure of 1996. This famous year when Paris Saint-Germain offered its very first (and only) European Cup. Bernard Lama, Daniel Bravo or Vincent Guérin and Laurent Fournier won the Cup cup. Almost thirty years later, they mentioned the state of their relations with their former club. With some big confessed regrets.
All these beautiful people were brought together during a collective interview published this Thursday in The team. The opportunity for the old Parisian glories to evoke the good time and some joyful memories of this memorable evening after the victory in the final against Rapid Vienne (1-0). But also the opportunity for them to deplore a certain sidelining in the souvenir department.
Bernard Lama spoke first by widening his reflection:
“I think it's not just linked to PSG. It is linked to France. When you arrive at a certain age, you are put aside. That you are replaced, it is natural. That you are forgotten, it is something else. »» And Daniel Bravo to respond to the 1998 world champion. “What are we expecting from the club? Me, nothing. »» However, the beIN Sports consultant added: “Afterwards, if you go to the park, there are photos, we are not scratched from the card anyway. »»
Lack of link between generations at PSG
But Bernard Lama resumed: “Of course we do not expect anything, that we don't need them to live. But we wrote pages of the book. Not one. Pages. And if they win against Inter, you forget our generation, Daniel. I told them:
'I have the impression that we are illegitimate sons'. »» For his part, Daniel Bravo expressed another regret concerning the current PSG players:
“We would like to go to players, but we don't interest them at all. »»
A feeling shared both by Vincent Guérin and Laurent Fournier, the latter adding: “They don't know us!” »» Enough to make Daniel Bravo say: “There are still good guys in this team. Someone will just have to make the link between the young generations and us. »» The message has passed. Will PSG leaders understand it?
