Mercato: why Real Madrid is struggling to degrease

Real Madrid struck hard, and above all, quickly. While the transfer window has not even officially opened its doors, the Merengues have already secured two arrivals: Dean Huijsen, already officially Madrid, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, which will be very quickly. Alvaro Carreras, a talented left side of Benfica, should follow and the local press is convinced that Nico Paz (CĂ´me) will also be repatriated. For the middle, Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart) is also likely to land in Madrid. Suffice to say that the desires of Madrid public opinion, which demanded a revolution in the workforce, were taken into account by management.

But for there to be a revolution, there must be arrivals … but also departures. For the moment, Real Madrid has sold no one, and no player seems close to leaving the capital. There are only the three players at the end of the contract that are Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric and Jesus Vallejo who will leave at the end of the Club World Cup, but for the many undesirable people of the workforce, it is not clearly upset at the gate. Especially since this season, with the World Cup, the transfer window dates have been put forward with this new window which allows clubs to recruit from June 1 to 10, before reopening on the 16th of this same month. How to explain this contrast between a frantic transfer window in the direction of arrivals, and this total calm in terms of departures?

Players are not in a hurry

First, the arrival of a new coach changes things, necessarily. Many players who have not necessarily counted for Carlo Ancelotti or who were in a somewhat delicate situation hope to be able to convince Xabi Alonso to give him a place in his team. And this will be played mainly during this club World Cup, hence this status quo at the level of departures. Players like Fran Garcia or David Alaba, among other things, are among the players who were announced as well as starters but who, in the event of major performances in this new FIFA tournament, could change their situation. And vice versa: Xabi Alonso also wants to see what his players are capable before letting the world go.

According to our information, many players are still a little in the vagueness by all these changes that take place at the club, like a Ferland Mendy who has not yet been able to chat with Xabi Alonso. A climate of uncertainty that should dissipate once the players have resumed training in early June. There is also another component to take into account: Real Madrid does not necessarily need to sell. Unlike many clubs across Europe, which often push their players to the door, the Merengues do not need to separate assets to have their accounts in the green or to be able to strengthen. The sports management led by José Angel Sanchez and Juni Calafat therefore has no emergency and can afford to take his time.

A complicated market

As a result, Real Madrid is in a position of strength in negotiations and can afford to ask for substantial amounts when clubs come to the news. Then, it should also be noted that some of the players who are not unanimous internally have quite significant emoluments for the clubs that covet them. At the same time, the current financial reality of football means that many fairly important clubs that could have welcomed these players do not necessarily have the desire or the means of spending everything this summer. In England, clubs usually spending like Manchester United or Chelsea seem to be heading for a more prudent transfer window, while in Spain, the other Liga clubs are still handicapped by the heavy measures of the financial fair play by Javier Tebas. The idea of joining secondary markets like Saudi Arabia where MLS does not necessarily enchant the most ambitious players who are considered transferable.

All, without forgetting a very important element: for many players, playing Real Madrid is an accomplishment in their career and inevitably, it is complicated to make your suitcases, even when you have less playing time than what you would like. If the Merengues should go to the Club World Cup with at least 3 new heads, everything indicates that there will be no departure by the end of the competition besides the players at the end of the contract. It is therefore from mid-July that it should start to move for many players like Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavonga, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia, at a time when we imagine that most of the new Merengues recruits will therefore have arrived. A fascinating summer hunt that promises to be …
