It was an aperitif before the resistance dish. While waiting to challenge Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League, in Munich on May 31, Paris Saint-Germain faced the Reims stadium last Saturday in the final of the Coupe de France.

For the men of Luis Enrique, it was an opportunity to win a new trophy, of course, and to keep the pace before the big meeting next weekend. For Parisian supporters, this French Cup final was a great appetizer, and the opportunity to see at work a team that enthusiastic club lovers this season.

However, the accounting verdict is quite negative. The meeting TV audience is quite disappointing, in some respects: 2.96 million viewers, on average, on France 2.

PSG clearly beaten by rugby?

What to think of these figures? Already that there is a spectacular drop compared to last year final, between PSG and Olympique Lyonnais, which had brought together on average 4.46 million viewers. The poster was less attractive, of course, while the opposition between the champion of France and the 16th in Ligue 1 did not promise a big suspense. The popular momentum that accompanies PSG in the Champions League did not act in compensation.

In addition, as a comparison, the final of the Champions Cup of Rugby between Bordeaux-Bègles and Northampton, also broadcast on France 2, fascinated 2.9 million fans of oval ball. In many ways, it is a score much greater than PSG-Reims, because the time slot was less favorable for rugby (kick-off 3:45 p.m.) compared to football, broadcast in prime time. The proof? The audience share is around 18% for the Coupe de France, while it reaches 33% for the rugby final.
