While waiting for the Club World Cup that will start in mid-June, Real Madrid has completed its season. No major title for the Merengue and a departure acted from Carlo Ancelotti, called on the side of the Brazilian selection. The name of his successor had been rustling in the slide for several weeks and this Sunday, it is now official: Xabi Alonso is the new coach of Real Madrid.

The Madrid club has officially announced it on its site and through its social networks. “Xabi Alonso will be the Real Madrid coach for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028.” Real Madrid player between 2009 and 2014, the former midfielder played 236 games with the Merengue. He notably won a Spanish championship and the famous “Decima”, the tenth Champions League in the history of the club.

He had also won this C1 under the orders of Carlo Ancelotti. It is therefore almost logically that he succeeds the Italian coach on the Madrid bench. Last year, Xabi Alonso shone at the head of the Bayer Leverkusen team, winning in particular the very first title in the history of the club in the Bundesliga. Last summer, he chose to stay in Germany to live the Champions League campaign with his players.

His arrival in Madrid had been expected for a long time. A few weeks ago, Bayer announced its departure at the end of the season. Then the signature of Carlo Ancelotti with the Seleçao had been formalized. But the general public was still waiting to be formalized by the return to the Madrilene fold of Xabi Alonso.

The latter, who has already trained the young people of Real during the 2018-2019 season, now has a site and a reconstruction to be accomplished in front of him. The midfielder is to be restructured very largely, especially due to the retirement of Toni Kroos last year and the non-prolongation of Luka Modric at the end of the season. Defense will also be a big file for the forty-three-year-old man.
