Modric is preparing to put an end to his 13 years spent in the Spanish capital, following a decision not to extend his contract.
The 39-year-old had previously indicated his desire to extend by a year, to play beyond his 40th anniversary in September in Madrid, and lead Croatia to the 2026 World Cup.
However, a change has been imposed, but Modric should play at least one additional year in a club to maintain its World Cup goal.
Modric addressed the public of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium one last time, Real Madrid having concluded the 2024/25 season with a 2-0 victory against the Athletic Club.
The Club World Cup blocks Modric's decision
The professionalism of Modric prevents him from responding to club offers before the end of the Real Madrid campaign in the club World Cup.
His contract expires at the end of June, but a special extension was requested for the competition, if Real Madrid reaches the knockout stages in mid-July.
It is only this finalized extension that Modric will consider the continuation of his brilliant career.
MLS option for Modric
According to Diario As, Modric should receive offers from the Saudi Pro League and MLS.
A transfer to the United States seems more interesting for Modric at this stage, and the Club World Cup could give it a taste of living in the United States and what it can expect in MLS.
Kevin de Bruyne and Thomas Müller are also on MLS radar as free transfer options this summer, before their respective departures from Manchester City and Bayern Munich, with destinations from Chicago, Los Angeles and Inter Miami by David Beckham.
