Real Madrid is already preparing for the Petits Luka Modric, the 39-year-old preparing to leave the club this summer.

The Croatian international made goodbye before the last championship match of the 2024/25 Liga season. He will lead the team against Real Sociedad on May 25 for his last match at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium after 13 years rich in trophies in Madrid.

Modric had become the emblem of Real Madrid policy consisting in extending the contracts of players over 30 years old, but this trend is now over.

With the wind of change that blows on Real, Modric follows Carlo Ancelotti after his departure from the club, while Xabi Alonso is about to take the reins.

What future for Luka Modric?

Modric remains focused on his objective: being captain of Croatia during the FIFA World Cup 2026. A 12 -month contract in a new club therefore seems likely, once the club World Cup is completed.

His visit to Madrid is finished, but his last appearance will depend on the progression of the team in the exposed tournament this summer, before a new club is envisaged. A transfer to Saudi pro league has been mentioned, but Modric favors a transfer to MLS.

Who will replace Luka Modric at Real Madrid?

The midfielder should not be a major priority for Alonso in the coming months, defensive reinforcements being his priority.

However, according to Fichajes.net, the Liverpool star, Alexis Mac Allister, would be Modric's ideal replacement, despite the price requested by the Reds (90 million euros).

Mac Allister recognized and rejected links with Madrid this summer, but there is an option for the future. Real Madrid could lay a few bases this summer, because its importance for Arne Slot makes a departure difficult, the situation being even more impacted by the controversial transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid.
