A world champion burned in a terrible accident

Former Brazilian defender Lucio, 2002 world champion, was hospitalized Thursday in Brasilia following a domestic accident that caused burns on several parts of his body. According to an official press release from the hospital, the 47-year-old former international is stable, aware and taken care of by a specialized medical team.

His partner, Marilia Forgiarini, told the media o Globo that an explosion of the fireplace occurred while the couple were at home. Lucio, retired since 2020, was immediately taken care of by the emergency services and led to the hospital.

According to a first medical assessment, he suffers from burns on several parts of the body. The former defender is still hospitalized, but his state of health evolves favorably, even if he continues to receive specific care. Despite the violence of the accident, he remains aware.

An emblematic career

On the ground, Lucio marked his time. It was especially in Europe that it has established itself as a reference. From Bayer Leverkusen to Juventus, passing by Bayern Munich, he became a real legend at Inter Milan, where he won the Champions League in 2010 under José Mourinho.

Brazilian football icon, he was also one of the pillars of the Seleção in the 2000s. He had 105 selections in the national team and marked the history of the country by winning the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He also raised two confederations cups in addition to the world title.
