Decorated for their Olympic medal, Alexandre Lacazette and Rayan Cherki were made knights of the National Order of Merit on Tuesday, May 13 at the Hotel de Lyon. An honor received after their silver medal won with the Olympic French team during the 2024 Paris Games. The ceremony, although solemn, has given way to a few moments of lightness.

One of them particularly made Lyon supporters smile: the son of Alexandre Lacazette refused to shake hands Grégory Doucet, ecologist mayor of Lyon. “Hello you”, He launched the elected official, when the captain of OL tried to convince his child: “Say hello”. Without success. “Are they shy?” »»asked the mayor. Lacazette, hilarious, has advanced another explanation: ” I think it's the green suit. »» An allusion immediately understood by Doucet: ” Ah, is it the green suit? Oh no, it has nothing to do! »»

Because in Lyon, green does not go unnoticed. Symbol of Saint-Etienne, Historical Rival of OL, this color remains taboo for many supporters … and obviously for the children of players. A teasing of Lacazette well felt towards the mayor, a few days before her last match with his training club against Angers on Saturday evening (9 p.m.), for the 34th day of Ligue 1.

“General Knight”

The ceremony was also an opportunity to review familiar faces of OL. Paulo Fonseca, Gones coach, was present alongside Corentin Tolisso, also honored. World champion in 2018, the midfielder received the Legion of Honor, marking an additional distinction in an already rich career.

Always quick to humor, the two Olympic medalists played with their new titles. “No, no, general, we don't change anything. General Knight! »»launched Lacazette. Rayan Cherki preferred to reinvent himself: “From now on, call me King Arthur. »» Before rectifying a laugh: “From tomorrow, you call me Messire. »»
