After the rout in Lens, rumors were going well around the Lyon composition for the trip to Monaco. Two days before the end and with Europe online in sight, Paulo Fonseca could no longer afford the slightest calculation. Officially, these are not sanctions. But in fact, some choices suggest that the Portuguese coach wanted to hit hard, by betting on the experience, even if it means offending some internal sensitivities.

The first strong signal concerns the tip of the attack. Exit Mikautadze, however in good shape, Fonseca preferred to set Alexandre Lacazette, his “general”, by betting on his experience to guide his own in this decisive match. Another imposed change: Tolisso's injury. The former world champion is replaced by the American Tanner Tessmann, aligned alongside Nemanja Matic in the heart of the game.

Lacazette and Cherki will lead OL's attack against Monaco.

In support, Thiago Almada held the position of playmaker. The young Argentin is responsible for hosting the Lyon game behind Lacazette. On the wings, no surprises: Rayan Cherki, now unbeatable, is on the right, while Malick Fofana takes the left corridor. An offensive trio young and technical, which will have to make the difference in a match with strong issues.

Lyon: the composition that will cringe teeth

Behind, Fonseca keeps its clinton Mata-Niakhaté hinge, framed by Maitland-Niles on the right and Tagliafico on the left. Lucas Perri, solid this season, keeps the Lyon cage. This defensive block will have to resist Monegasque assaults in a match that OL is not allowed to lose.

With Nuamah package and injured Tolisso, the solutions are counted. This eleven embodies the urgency and the desire to bounce back. Monaco is in good shape, but Lyon, if he still wants to believe in a European place, will have to give everything. Fonseca plays big, and his choices give way to any doubt: it is leaving or double.
