The Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is perhaps the most famous in football. A long -standing representative of Cristiano Ronaldo, he is now ready to pursue his career alongside the greatest talents for an additional decade, with Lamine Yamal among his illustrious customers. However, he faces legal troubles in his native Portugal.
Mendes is accused of tax fraud up to 18 million euros, according to the Correio Da Manha, relayed by Diario As. The transaction that attracted him the attention of the authorities is actually not linked to his activities in football, but to a donation he made to his wife.
Cristiano Ronaldo is very close to Jorge Mendes
As part of an operation called “Outside”, the Portuguese prosecution accused Mendes of tax evasion after having donated almost half of the capital of a company to his wife, before the latter was bought by another company related to Mendes. According to the newspaper, this led to a tax loss of 18 million euros, the fine he must now pay.
Mendes gave his wife several million
The Mendes legal team quickly denied these accusations and qualified them as'”Unfair and unfounded
». Me Rui Patricio de Morais Leitao said: ” Although he proclaims his innocence, he would reimburse the money. ”
“We are firmly refuting this accusation because there was no tax fraud. This accusation is unjustified and unfounded; It is unfair, both in itself and in view of the life of Jorge Mendes and its contributions to the country, as well as its past as a contributor to himself and his businesses. We emphasize that the facts in question strictly concern his personal, family and financial affairs, not his professional sphere. »»
It should be noted that the case in question had already been analyzed by the tax administration in 2014 (approximately 11 years ago), and that several checks and analyzes had been carried out later. However, despite this, and for many years, these facts have never been disputed. Anyway, it is the first time (in March 2025) that the tax administration concludes that the tax is due, and although its lawyers consider this conclusion to be wrong, Jorge Mendes intends to pay the amount in question.
