Jorge Sampaoli does not have an unforgettable memory of his short term at the head of Stade Rennais. Appointed last November, the Argentinian coach was dismissed at the end of January, after a series of disappointing results. His record of 3 victories and 7 defeats in 10 games left the club in 16th place, synonymous with dams for the maintenance, when he left.

In an interview with Sport daily, Sampaoli returned to the reasons for this failure at SRFC. He notably evokes a gap between his vision of the project and that of the leaders, with whom he found himself in disagreement.

“The short term was difficult”

“We arrived with a very great ambition. I also had the opportunity to go to Genoa in Italy, but I saw a team in reindeer where we could set up something with young players. With the possibility of creating a team that would have a certain freedom to set up a project for the medium and long term. The short term was difficult because the team was fighting to maintain itself. We did not agree with the management or the owners of the club in the medium term. So I preferred to leave ”, commented Sampaoli.

Since the arrival of his successor this winter, in the person of Habib Beye, the Red and Black have managed to take shelter from the relegation zone. They occupy 11th place, eleven points from AS Saint-Étienne, first relegation.
