Before Delio Onnis (299 goals) and Bernard Lacombe (255 goals), it is a man named Hervé Revelli who was the intractable striker of the French championship in the jersey of AS Saint-Etienne and the OGC Nice in the 60s and 70s.
This French international with 30 selections (from 1966 to 1975), for 15 goals scored, was crowned champion of France seven times during the great Greens' period, being the center-forward of the Stéphanoise epic until the final of the Champion Clubs Cup (the ancestor of the Champions League), for a 1-0 defeat against the Bayern of Franz Beckenbauer.
Revelli is the top scorer in the history of ASSE with 211 goals all competitions and is one of the best French scorers in history in the five major championships with 216 achievements. He is only preceded by Karim Benzema (281 goals), Bernard Lacombe (255 goals) and Thierry Henry (233 goals).
Mbappé soon in front of Revelli
Fourth in this ranking of the most prolific French attackers in history, Hervé Revelli will soon be doubled by Kylian Mbappé. It is inevitable. From a double registered with Real Madrid against Celta de Vigo (3-2) on Sunday, the EDF captain reached the 215 league goals in his career, to return to a single Revelli unit.
Eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal and beaten in the King Cup final by Barça, Real has another liga matches on the counter, against Barça, Majorca, Seville and Real Sociedad. This will allow Mbappé, if he is not injured, to become 4th French top scorer in the championship at the expense of Revelli.
