The place of Riyad Mahrez to the Pantheon of African and World Football is ensured. The Sarcellois, an Algerian international, added a line to his huge record on Saturday, winning the Asian Champions League with his Al-Ahli club. The Saudi training dominated the Japanese of Kawasaki (2-0) in Djeddah, thanks to goals from Galeno (35th) and Franck Kessié (42nd).

Mahrez, 34, has been playing in Saudi Arabia since last season, in the company of Roberto Firmino or Edouard Mendy, also crowned this weekend. The three men have become the first players in history to win the two largest club competitions in Asia and Europe.

This season, the former Havre player, Leicester and Manchester City compiled 16 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, after having already finished in “double-double” with 14 goals and 15 passes in 2023-2024.

A unique list

Top scorer in the 2025 edition of the Asian C1 with 9 goals, Mahrez was nevertheless preceded by his Firmino teammate for the trophy of best player in the competition, which may seem a little unfair…

Since he left Le Havre in 2014, Riyad Mahrez has won a Champions League, an Asian Champions League, an African Cup of Nations, 5 Premier League titles, 5 National Cups and a Community Shield. Difficult to do much better!
