This sabbatical year coming to an end, the name of Xavi returns to the front of the stage of the major European stables.
AS Roma and Manchester United would both discussed Xavi at the start of the season, while they were looking for potential successors to Daniele de Rossi and Erik Ten Hag respectively. However, both learned that Xavi would make at least a year far from the field, after a stressful end of mandate.
Xavi Hernandez observes the market
In theory, however, Xavi is now ready to work again. With the departure of Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid, it seems that Leverkusen launched the search for his successor. The former Manchester United manager, Ten Hag, and the Real Sociedad coach, Imanol Alguacil, are expected for the post. The latter should leave Anoeta at the end of the season.
Xavi to replace Xabi Alonso?
According to Kicker (via Diario as), Leverkusen is interested in Xavi. He is appreciated for his style of play, his international experience and his mastery of English. Bayer leaders would have been in contact with the Catalan coach and received no negative response from those around him.
It would be fascinating to see Xavi in action far from Barcelona. Player and coach in Barcelona, Xavi only knew these two disciplines only in Al-Sadd, Saudi Arabia. Xavi experienced difficulties in his second full season, but won a Liga title and a Spanish Super Cup in his second year.
