Liverpool will start negotiations for a new contract with Ibrahima Konaté after learning the wish of Paris Saint-Germain to recruit the defender this summer.

The Konaté contract in Anfield expires at the end of next season and, seeking to extend his contract at the club beyond this date, the Reds are also interested in Dean Huijsen, a replacement for the French central defender.

TeamTalk reports that discussions between Liverpool and Konaté have not progressed, the decision having been made to focus on his contract in response to the interest of PSG, which eliminated the Reds of the Champions League this season.

If no agreement is reached with Konaté, Liverpool could be motivated to collect and avoid losing it for free at the end of next season. If this scenario materializes, a transfer to Huijsen could be envisaged. The Reds are interested in the defender of Bournemouth, but should have competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

PSG insists for Konaté

There are good reasons to think that Liverpool would not be too disappointed with the idea of losing Konaté, if he managed to replace him with Huijsen, author of an impressive performance with Bournemouth this season and having contributed to seven clean Sheets in the league. The Spanish international was on the ground during 25 of the 40 goals collected by Bournemouth in the league. Konaté saw 21 of the 31 goals conceded by Liverpool to be with him on the meadow.

A big contract for Konaté

Huijsen has achieved more counter (25 against 15), interceptions (49 against 11) and clearances (160 against 110) than Konaté in the league this season, despite the same number of games played (27). Konaté has the advantage in terms of air duels won (69 against 61) and tackles (36 against 33).

Konaté hopes to help Liverpool cross the finish line and win the title of Premier League on Sunday, when the Reds will only need one point against Tottenham to win the championship.

Bournemouth welcomes Manchester United earlier during the day, and Huijsen should be the key as they seek to take a step towards European qualification.
