At exceptional year, exceptional measures. Gathered this Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the members of the LFP board of directors decided to adjust the calendar to plan the summer transfer window. From then on, there will first be ten days, from June 1 to 10, “Which will allow each association of a club participating in this competition to have a transfer window before the start of the competition. Following the complementary period linked to the Club World Cup and to respect the limit of days authorized by FIFA, the usual summer transfer window will start on Monday June 16 and will end on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 8 pm ”. But that's not all.
Fitted transfer window, contracts to be renegotiated
If the summer window will therefore be reorganized, the future of the players at the end of the contract in 2025 – and led to participate in the Club World Cup this summer – also asks questions. Indeed, several players related to their club until June 30 are preparing to compete in the competition. Yes but here, depending on the advance of the tournament, organized in the United States, certain teams qualified for the knockout stages or for the quarter-finals will have scheduled matches from July 1. Therefore, some players could stop during the tournament if the contract ends on June 30. As a reminder, no agreement exists between FIFPro, representative of players, and FIFA on this subject.
Lately, Kevin de Bruyne – who announced his departure from Manchester City at the end of the season – served as an example since Pep Guardiola confirmed that he could not know if he will be able to count on the Belgian international in the event of the qualification of the Citizens for the final phase on American soil. “The club must speak with him or else Kevin must say what he wants. The first three games will take place before the end of his contract on June 30 but after that, if we go far, I don't know ”recognized the Skyblues technician. A constraint valid for all the training courses in the competition and which will therefore have to find an agreement with the players in order to extend the contract until the end of the tournament.
PSG spared
In recent weeks, several players at the end of the contract, via their representatives, have also asked for details on this subject in order to know the conditions for a possible extension of a few days and/or weeks, in particular with regard to salary and insurance. Qualified for this tournament and present in group G alongside Manchester City (England), Wydad AC (Morocco) and Al Ain FC (United Arab Emirates), Juventus has thus started negotiations. “We discuss with the clubs to which they belong and we count a lot on the will of the players. These are decisions that will be made at the end of the championship. But we discuss, we hope to find the right solution ”admitted in this sense Cristiano Giuntoli, director of football of the Turin training.
In fact, the players loaned with an obligation to buy (Michele Di Gregorio, Lloyd Kelly and Nico Gonzalez) will therefore be able to compete in the Club World Cup. Loaned by Milan with a buyer right – that the Bianconeri should exercise – Pierre Kalulu should also be part of the American adventure. On the other hand, for Francisco Conceicao – which has a release clause of 30 million euros in his contract with Porto – Renato Veiga and Randal Kolo Muani, who arrived in the form of a dry loan, Juve will have to find a new agreement with the clubs concerned, namely Chelsea and PSG. Without this common ground, the three players previously mentioned will then leave the Piedmont and Juve will not be able to count on them beyond June 30. A headache that PSG will not arise, however, since no player of the capital's club sees his contract coming to an end …
