Carlo Ancelotti is currently in command, but if he ended the season on a bad note, it is almost certain that his second mandate as the main coach would end prematurely.
More and more rumors are circulating as to a departure from Ancelotti from Real Madrid, regardless of the Liga victory and/or in the King's Cup. The Italian should also leave his post before the start of the club World Cup in June. If that were to happen, the big favorite to succeed him would be Xabi Alonso.
Alonso has been in the crosshairs of Real Madrid for some time now, and he could take the reins of Santiago Bernabéu this summer. He has an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to leave for the Spanish capital if he wishes, but the Merengues should buy his contract, which expires at the end of next season.
Xabi Alonso addresses the press.
Will Xabi Alonso join Real Madrid?
According to El Partidazo de Cope, Real Madrid should pay 8 million euros to recruit Alonso this summer. Thus, the club would exceed all of its expenses last summer if it activated this agreement with Leverkusen, since Kylian Mbappé (free transfer) was the only player arrived in 2024.
It seems inevitable that Alonso becomes the next Real Madrid coach, despite links with coaches like Andoni Iraola and Jürgen Klopp in recent months. Uncertainties hovered about his succession to Ancelotti, but it seems more and more likely that everything is materializing this summer. If this is the case, it would mark a new era for the club.
