The transfer of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool to FC Barcelona in January 2018, for a record sum of around 160 million euros, will finally have left an unfinished taste. In recent statements to the Brazilian press, the Brazilian international returns with disarming sincerity about his contrasting experience in Catalonia.

The passage of Philippe Coutinho to FC Barcelona remains tinged with regret. The Brazilian attacking midfielder, which joined the Blaugranas ranks in January 2018 from Liverpool for an amount of 120 million euros (plus 40 bonuses), returned to his adventure within the Catalan club between 2018 and 2022. A period of his career in loans in Bayern Munich and Aston Villa.

While Coutinho's story had started under the best auspices in his first season, the next one was marked by a huge drop in carioca diet. “The start was really good. My first six months in Barcelona were excellent. We won a title and I was playing really well. But the following season, after the World Cup, I was no longer at the same level. My performances dropped and it was difficult for me. I wanted to be up to expectations, including mine, but I did not get there ”said the playmaker Auriverde, currently loaned by Aston Villa to Vasco Da Gama, in remarks relayed by the Brazilian press.

Back to England in sight

Under the Blaugranas colors, Coutinho will have played 106 games for a total of 25 goals and 14 assists. He notably won two liga, two King's Cups and a Spanish Super Cup.

This 2024-2025 season, the 32-year-old has already taken part in 15 games with his training club, for 5 goals and 2 assists. He will find Aston Villa at the end of the financial year, with whom he is still under contract until June 2026.
