What if the Mbappé affair had much heavier consequences than planned for PSG? The dreaded scenario is now seriously mentioned.

The conflict between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain, long considered a simple contractual quarrel, has crossed a new course. Behind the legal proceedings started by the player hides a much more serious threat to the Parisian club: a potential exclusion from the Champions League. This scenario, so far deemed unthinkable, is now taken very seriously by sports law experts.

It is only at the second level of reading that the threat is becoming clearer: UEFA, informed by the FFF of the existence of a dispute linked to unpaid wages, could theoretically refuse to validate the European license of PSG. The reason? The club would have failed to pay all the sums due to one of its employees, in this case Mbappé, without being able to present a clear addendum on this subject. A regulatory flaw that player's lawyers are trying to exploit.

Champions League: What if PSG said goodbye to Europe?

By relying on the mechanisms of the DNCG and the financial control bodies of UEFA, the advice of Mbappé seek to push PSG in its entrenchments. The club finds itself forced to register the 55 million euros in wages and bonuses claimed in its 2025 accounts. A sudden charge which weighs heavily on its cash, but especially on its ability to comply with European standards in budget management.

Mbappé's poker blow that could cost PSG dearly

As Me Thierry Granurco explains in Le Parisien, the deadlines for such litigation could be spread over several years. But the strategy of the Mbappé clan is clear: forcing PSG to act now, under penalty of unbalanced its entire economic model. By making the validation of uncertain accounts, they place the club in a turbulence area where UEFA decisions could become unpredictable.

Beyond financial issues, the image of PSG vacillates. The multiplication of complaints – for insults, harassment, and even alleged media manipulation – feeds a deleterious climate.
“The club is not above the laws”hammer the lawyers of Mbappé. In the background, the passion of a player for a club he always says to love comes up against the reality of a fierce judicial confrontation. The presence during the next C1 is still far from being called into question … but the shadow of a previous plane.
