The sinking is total for Dazn. The mediator appointed by justice in the context of discussions between the British platform and the Professional Football League (LFP) has drawn up a disastrous assessment.
While the annual average amount paid by Dazn for the Diffusion Rights of Ligue 1 over the period 2024-2029 reached 375 million euros, the operation promises to be far from profitable. For the broadcast of 8 games out of 9 each day, the platform is preparing to complete its first season as the main broadcaster of the French championship with an estimated deficit between 200 and 250 million euros.
Dazn's impossible equation
Note that the contract provides for a gradual increase in the amount paid each year. This season, Dazn spends 325 million euros, to which are added 35 million linked to editorial costs – salaries of journalists and consultants, travel costs, accommodation, communication and marketing.
But these 360 million expenses find no balance in income. And for good reason: these cap at around 120 million euros, generated by the approximately 500,000 subscribers identified, according to information from The team This Tuesday.
