The former midfielder in Barcelona and Liverpool, Arthur Melo, was the victim of a burglary in the city center of the Catalan capital this week.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Girona on loan from Juventus during the January transfer window. The 28-year-old would have spent the afternoon in Barcelona and was in town to shop after training in Girona. While paying a ticket in a parking lot in the Gràcia Passeig around 4:00 p.m., Arthur was discussed from behind and was robbed in seconds by two individuals, according to Diario As. One took his watch to him, while the other was waiting on a motorcycle to evacuate the thief. The Brazilian suffered no physical injury, but then went to the police station to file a complaint.

Arthur was back in training in Girona this morning, but he is the last victim to date with the growing burglary problem in Barcelona. Thieves are commonplace in the Catalan capital, but in recent years, several footballers have been targeted, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, violently attacked during the incident. It is unknown if Arthur was targeted due to his profile or if it was a fortuitous victim.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had also been targeted by attackers in Barcelona.

The midfielder loaned by Juventus will prepare for a crucial shock against Alavés on Sunday, while Girona tries to avoid being trained in a fight for maintenance. Arthur has played all the matches under the direction of Michel Sanchez since his beginnings against Getafe in mid-February, and was holder in the last three games.

Arthur of course spent three years in Barcelona when he signed for the Blaugrana in 2018 for 31 million euros from Gremio. He then joined Juventus for 80.5 million euros in 2021, before being loaned to Liverpool, Fiorentina and now in Girona. His next steps are not clear, while there are still two years on his contract with Juventus and there is no sign that he is in the Bianconeri plans.
