Jorge Sampaoli breaks the silence. The former coach of Stade Rennais arrived in Brittany with the ambition to straighten the club in difficulty. However, the Argentinian has not succeeded in his challenge. In eight matches, his team conceded six defeats, plunging Rennes at the bottom of the table. Therefore, his adventure will have turned short.
Sampaoli's style of play has never convinced Breton leaders. This pushed the latter to end his lease and place Habib Beye on the bench. The Senegalese allowed Rennes to go back to 12th place and the club is much more efficient. Enough to undermine Jorge Sampaoli's rating on the market.
Recently, the Argentinian shared his tumultuous experience in the Breton club. In just a few months, tensions appeared, leading to his hasty departure. Deep disagreements with Rennes management have marked its passage to Brittany. He refuses to do his mea culpa and points to the sports leadership, accusing him of having compromised his project.
A question of transfer window?
The coach, who led Stade Rennais from November 24, 2024 to January 25, 2025, denounced a recruitment which he considered incompatible with his vision. “The owner of the club is a very important person in France and, frankly, the club was not up to the expectations that I had vis-à -vis the market (players). The sports director decided to make a transfer window that had nothing to do with what we needed, ”he says.
The Argentinian therefore decided to end the collaboration with Stade Rennais. “We preferred to cut the link. I could not coach a team in which I had not chosen the players on the winter transfer window. We even talked about players who have already played with us to change history more easily, but we were not very listened to, ”he regrets.
