The most capped player in the history of Bayern Munich with 742 appearances (for 247 goals and 273 assists), Thomas Müller should give new meaning to his career this summer. Today aged 35, the German attacking midfielder must be satisfied with a different role in the locker room, namely that of a leader, but doomed to play less and less in the team of Vincent Kompany. It is no coincidence that the 2014 world champion has only held 8 times in 23 Bundesliga games this season (1 goal, 3 assists).

With the next end of contract of his dinosaurs Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, legends of the club who participated in the conquests of the Champions League 2013 and 2020, Bayern Munich knows: a tight turn awaits him, with a great challenge a new virtuous cycle to initiate. The latest rumors indicated that Manuel Neuer would be part of it (he should extend), but obviously, not Müller.

No 18th season for Thomas Müller

This Sunday is a small earthquake that actually causes Kicker In Germany, since the media indeed announces the departure of the right -hander of 1m85 at the end of the season. Anxious to clean up its finances, the Bavarian club would offer itself a real austerity cure by saving more than 20 million euros per season on the salary of its player, which today knows its 17th season with the Rekordmeister.

If Müller would have liked to stay one more season in the club of his life, he would have been informed of the decision of his leaders to part with it, during a meeting that took place during the last international truce. Kicker specifies that he should however be offered a more diplomatic role in the club organization chart. It remains to be seen whether it will take place at the end of the season, or if the German will be convinced by a last adventure, in MLS or elsewhere. But what we are about is that a golden page of Bavarian history should close in June.
