New surprise resignation in Rennes

The Stade Rennes thought it had closed the chapter of internal upheavals. And yet, a new shock strikes the Breton club. Internally, an important figure is about to pack. Is he a player? A coach? A leader? The club remains silent for the moment, but this departure revives speculations on recurring instability in the organization chart of the SRFC.

The veil rises: it is Frédéric Massara. The sports director who arrived in the summer of 2024 will not go to the end of his contract. According to information from Ouest-France, the former Milanese leader pays a summer transfer window deemed failed, marked by more than 80 million euros spent for disappointing results on the field. The arrival of President Arnaud Pouille last fall had already started a change of course.

Rennes borrows a strategic turn.

The club has already started reflection on its succession. Loïc Désiré, current responsible for the recruitment of Strasbourg, would today be in pole to take the sports reins of the club. His profile, much appreciated for his results in Alsace, had already been envisaged in the past, before Massara was preferred to him.

A departure that arouses questioning in Rennes

This departure is part of a wider redesign strategy. Stade Rennais is preparing to welcome Laurent Bessière as a new performance manager, a sign that President Pouille wants to establish a new cycle. After the sporting tremors of the current season, this recomposition aims to restore a clear direction to the Rennes project.

Massara's mission will have been short, intense and marked by a form of disillusionment. His departure also illustrates the high requirements of the Breton club, determined to pass a course. One thing is certain: this new page which opens in Rennes could well define the future face of the SRFC.
