This season again, the Var, or video assistance to the refereeing, is no exception to controversy, aroused almost the weekend of Ligue 1 or almost controversies as to its use and interpretation. Costly moreover – weighing 3.4 million euros in the accounts of the Professional Football League for the elite clubs alone (excluding Goal Line Technology) – the Var may already have lived.

In Italy is the test of football video support, says FVS. An alternative device currently tested in Serie C (the third transalpine division) and in a female series. Much less greedy in terms of resources – with a maximum of four required cameras – therefore less expensive, the FVS promises above all to simplify the use of video assistance, leaving the rest of the referee.

The FVS, a simplified var for more fluidity and savings

The FVS indeed is thought of as a tool for the player of the game and him alone; With the help of a video operator if, and only if, the referee has a doubt and must call on his services. A system that is similar to that of the challenges that in the NBA allow technical staff to challenge certain arbitral decisions. This is to validate or invalidate the very specific verdict phases: goals, penalties and red boxes in particular.

On the other hand, the FVS as it is designed today does not allow us to remove doubts in terms of offside. The triangulation via multiple cameras being essential to obtain a precise and indisputable judgment. Additional devices could be created shortly to arrive soon in a possible end of the Var.
