Dimitri Payet was asked to return to Olympique de Marseille. It was Emmanuel Macron himself who asked for it.

Arrived at Olympique de Marseille in 2013 and despite a small parenthesis of a year and a half in West Ham, Dimitri Payet left for it until the summer of 2023. Since then, the tricolor international has been the colors of the Brazilian club Vasco de Gama, but his adventure is coming to an end. Under contract until next June, he already knows that he will not be kept, the fault notably at a salary deemed far too heavy by club leaders. Where will he go after? Mystery. However, a certain Emmanuel Macron tried to guide his choice.

A sequence taken from the documentary “Dimitri Payet – O Carioca”which will be available this Saturday from 7:15 p.m. on Canal+, showed a earthy exchange between the two men. On the move to Brazil to meet his Brazilian counterpart, the President of the Republic invited Dimitri Payet. The opportunity for him to discuss the future plans of the former AS Saint-Etienne.
“When do you come back to France?” »»asked him for the politician. “When we need me”replied the footballer.

Macron wants Payet in Marseille

A first veiled invitation followed by a second, much more direct that one. “You miss in Marseille, you know!” »» Great supporters of OM, Emmanuel Macron would therefore dream of seeing the thirty-seven year old veteran under the colors sky and blue. A hope whose chances are practically zero since the club of President Longoria is rather turned to the future. But if he does not return to the field on the side of the Canebière, Dimitri Payet could on the other hand integrate the club on another floor, he who negotiated a return when leaving for Brazil.

Pending the continuation, the attacking midfielder should honor the contract that binds it with Vasco until its end. Since the resumption of the regional championship and the Brazil Cup, Dimitri Payet has taken by twelve games, with a decisive pass at the key in 389 minutes of play.
