The French team faces Croatia this evening in the quarterfinals of the League of Nations on the lawn of the Stade Poljud of Split. Bad news, the meeting will be marked by the absence of a major player in the competition: the Goal Line Tecnology.
This tool which allows the referees to check if the ball has crossed the entire goal line will not be available this evening in Croatia. The referees, equipped with a watch, then feel vibrations which tell them that the goal has indeed crossed the line.
An absence harmful to France?
The Goal Line Technology will not be available at the Poljud stadium because the infrastructure dates from 1979 is too old to allow the installation of this new technology. UEFA had not made this system compulsory for the League of Nations due to the significant costs it requires.
It must be said that the absence of the Goal Line Technology does not help the affairs of France. The last time the Blues played without this device, they had been denied a goal which was however indeed valid. It was the meeting between France and Greece in November 2023 (2-2) during the eliminations at Euro 2024. The referee had refused a valid goal to Kingsley Coman in the last minutes of the game. Hopefully the case will not be repeated this evening, because such an error could have heavy consequences on the rest of the competition for the two teams.
