The National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG) made public this week the budget report of the elite clubs for the financial year 2023-2024, revealing a large imbalance in the accounts of Ligue 1 as every year.
Flanked by the most imposing salary masses, PSG (€ 658.5 million), OL (€ 161.9 million) and OM (€ 148.2 million) keep their eyes larger than the belly since the three alleged locomotives in the championship completed the past season in the red. And not in lower proportions.
The LOSC Premier of the class
Last June, the Parisian club accused 60 million euros in loss over the past year, Marseille 39 million euros and Lyon 25.7 million; Barely better than the OGC Nice, another bad student with a slate of 26.7 million euros. Thanks to the resources of the main shareholders – except for OL, in the viewfinder of the DNCG – the deficits have been filled but the dynamics are nonetheless worrying.
Monaco (-17.9 million €), Strasbourg (-14.2 €) and Le Havre (-13.6 M €) also lost feathers during this 2023-2024 championship. The most economically speaking virtuous clubs being the LOSC (+€ 16.8 million), the RC Lens (+7.5 M €) and the Toulouse FC (+7 M €). A real performance in the current context and while income from TV rights – a first manna for most L1 players – are constantly decreasing.
The imbalance on this last point also challenges. Last season, five clubs were shared 56.5% of revenue from television rights. PSG having siphoned almost a quarter (24.6%), ahead of Lens (9.7%), Marseille (9.3%), Lille (6.6%) and Lyon (6.3%).
