Since his departure from AS Monaco in June 2024, Wissam Ben Yedder was without a club. Despite an impressive CV and high -level performance in Ligue 1 as in Liga, the 34 -year -old striker saw several doors close in Europe. His aborted transfer to Venice because of his legal problems is proof of this. But after months of waiting, he finally found a new challenge … and not just any.

Ben Yedder rebounds in an improbable championship

Ben Yedder is about to get involved with the Sépahan SC, Iranian club based in Ispahan and used to the jousts of the local championship and the Asian Champions League. A first for a French player! In search of an experienced striker, the leaders of the SEPAhan bet on the former monégasque to strengthen their workforce and play the leading roles in the league.

If his choice surprises, he nevertheless enrolled in a clear logic: the opportunities in Europe have become scarce for Ben Yedder. Sentenced to two years suspended prison sentence for sexual assault last November – facts he denies and for which he appealed – he is also targeted by other legal proceedings. A context that has cooled many Western clubs.

A risky but assumed bet

Sportingly, Ben Yedder remains a formidable scorer. With 118 goals in 201 games for Monaco and an honorable international career with the French team, he proved that he knew how to make the nets tremble. It remains to be seen if he will be able to adapt to Iranian football very physical and tactically different from what he has known in Europe.
