With one two out of three this week, French clubs have managed a very good shot on the side of the UEFA index. If Lille did not manage to overcome the obstacle represented by Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Liverpool at the same stage of the competition, while Lyon qualified for the quarterfinals of the Europa League by leaving the Romanians of the FCSB. A great performance which ensures France to keep its fifth place in the UEFA index classification.
A tour de force for the tricolor clubs which have been followed in recent months by their Dutch counterparts and, to a lesser extent, Portuguese. It is therefore definitively validated today, France retains its three direct qualifying places for the next Champions League, as well as a place for the preliminary round, with three other tickets for the Europa-Ligue Europa Conference Bouquet (two plus one). If this confirmation fell, it is because Thursday evening, Ajax Amsterdam and Az Alkmaar were left from the Europa League respectively by the Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham.
Paris and Lyon can still garner
At this stage, France has 71,379 points, 4,229 more than its first pursuer, the Netherlands. Portugal is much further in its seventh place, with 9,113 units behind France. The classification is always outrageously dominated by England and its 109,982 points ahead of Italy (95,293 points), Spain (92,239 points) and Germany (85,831 points).
With Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais who are therefore continuing their European route and will respectively face Aston Villa and Manchester United, France can hope to continue to garner a few precious points this season. Loads to the last two representatives of tricolor football to wear their colors high still a maximum of time.
