The French referee François Letexier will be at the whistle this week in the Champions League. He will direct the meeting of a Spanish club.

French referees are still popular with UEFA. While Clément Turpin directed (and rather well) the poster between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid (2-1) in the round of 16 go to the Champions League, François Letexier will be in action this week during the return matches.

The Breton referee will also take the direction of Spain, since he will be mission on the meeting between FC Barcelona and Benfica Lisbon. The Blaugranas won it to go to Portugal (0-1), despite the justified exclusion of Pau Cubarsi at the start of the game.

Letexier finds Barça

At 35, François Letexier lived the greatest moment in his career last summer by arbitrating the final of the euro between Spain and England (2-1), in Berlin. This season, he has already directed five Champions League games, including the Liverpool-Real Madrid shock (2-0), and a spectacular Dortmund-Barcelona (2-3) in the group stage. During this match, Mr. Letexier had whistled a penalty in favor of the Germans, for a stroller on Serhou Guirassy.
