There Gazzetta dello Sport revealed, last Thursday, some figures on the economy of the European championships, in particular the Serie A. and good news for our transalpine neighbors: it remains the fourth European championship in terms of income, with a turnover of 2.88 billion euros, recording growth of 23 % over a year. Despite this progression, it remains far behind the Premier League (7.15 billion), the Liga (3.65 billion) and the Bundesliga (3.62 billion). Serie A also ranks fourth in terms of TV rights, ticketing and sponsorship, and its clubs have obtained good results in European competitions, garnering 410 million euros in UEFA premiums. Also, Italian clubs have managed to better control their payroll, reducing its weight by 83 % to 66 % of income.
But a major problem remains: the deficit, which reaches 379 million euros, although it was reduced by half compared to the previous year. Only the Premier League displays higher losses (880 million euros). If some clubs such as Lazio and Atalanta are beneficiaries, others, such as Juventus and AS Roma, undergo heavy losses in their budget. Despite a clear growth, the serie is barely to find financial stability, but hopes to spend the symbolic course of the 3 billion euros in income in the years to come.
