Paulo Fonseca, the coach of Olympique Lyonnais, committed a misstep this Sunday by paying in an inappropriate gesture against referee Benoît Millot. The latter, who officiated during the Lyon-Brest match (2-1), was attacked by the Portuguese, who got closer to him, head against head, after being expelled at the end of the game.
This incident led Fonseca to send a letter of apology whose content was revealed by The team. In this message, the 51 -year -old tactician expresses his regrets to the referee concerned as well as to the entire arbitral body.
“I assume full responsibility for my error”
“First of all, I want to present my most sincere apologies to referee Benoît Millot and his team for my behavior on Sunday. I assume the full responsibility of my error without wanting to invent any excuse for this thoughtless gesture. (…) I regret having had an attitude contrary to what my principles of life are. I guarantee you that despite the aggressiveness with which I spoke to Mr. Millot, there has never been any other intention than to wrongly express my dissatisfaction. I also want to apologize to the arbitrator committee and Ligue 1 ”can we read.
The former AC Milan manager will have to appear before the LFP disciplinary committee on Wednesday. According to our colleagues, Fonseca would have proposed to the arbitration department to engage in works of general interest and would like to meet Lyon amateur arbitrators.
