The match between Osasuna and Real Madrid (1-1) on Saturday will remain in the annals as one of the most controversial of the season. At the heart of chaos: José Luis Munuera Montero, the referee accused of having “stolen” the Merengues with a controversial expulsion of Jude Bellingham and three unmooled penalties in their favor.
Bellingham had, as a reminder, received a direct red after a tense exchange with Munuera. The arbitration report mentions a “fuck you”, while the player and Carlo Ancelotti pleaded a linguistic misunderstanding (“fuck off”). There were therefore also unknown penalties: an unantegranted Osasuna hand, a tackle on Vinícius Jr. omis … and a surreal penalty granted to Osasuna for a Camavonga contact after Budimir's strike. Social networks exploded on the other side of the Pyrenees following this succession of errors penalizing Casa Blanca: “La Liga is a shame”, “corruption”, yelled from Madrid fans.
RFEF vs Munuera: the conflict of interest that changes everything
While the tension rises, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) has launched an official survey on Munuera Montero. In question: his company Talentus Sports, specializing in sports management, of which customers include … Laliga, UEFA, and clubs like Atlético Madrid, Manchester City or PSG! However, rule 9.1 of the ethical code stipulates that arbitrators must declare any activity that can create a conflict of interest. Munuera would not have reported these links, risking up to € 100,000 fine and 5 years of suspension.
The conspiracy theory therefore grows. Socios Real Madrid accuse the referee of having favored Osasuna to hide his links with rivals of the white club. RFEF, prudent, is in the “evidence collection” phase.

Since the match, Munuera has undergone an online hatred deluge: death threats on Instagram, calls for resignation … The referees committee has condemned these attacks, denouncing “unacceptable violence”. However, Real Madrid fuels the controversy: its TV channel will accuse Munuera of “bias”, while Encelotti denounces a “discredited” arbitration and a “corrupt” system.
