The former French international Benzema, who is now 37 years old, followed Ronaldo, former colleague of Santiago Bernabeu, in the Middle East in 2023. He scored 33 goals in 52 appearances for Al-Ittihad, including 15 in the first-tone division this season.

This total leaves the Frenchman to a single goal from Ronaldo, five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, who is still in great shape in Al-Nassr after celebrating his 40th anniversary. The Portuguese maintains remarkable standards in front of the cages.

The duel is in full swing

While two big names compete for the title of top scorer, Benzema said on the official website of the Saudi Pro League: ” I mean something: I am not this kind of guy who thinks of scoring goals, scoring goals. It is good to be there with Cristiano but, for me, the most important thing is to win the match. So, if I can score more goals for my team, I'm happy. »»

Asked about knowing if he takes more pleasure in scoring goals for others than scoring them himself, Benzema added: ” I like football to score goals, to make assists, to help my team. Because the team is what matters most to me. So I'm happy. »»

Al-Ittihad heads the Saudi Pro League after 20 matches. They are four points ahead of Al-Hilal, who recently released the Brazilian superstar Neymar, and eight on Al-Nassr-Ronaldo having trouble winning major titles during his stay in Riyadh.
