Real Madrid coveted Castello Lukeba, but a transfer battle promises to be with other European giants.

The central defender of the RB Leipzig, Castello Lukeba, is at the heart of a transfer battle involving the largest European clubs. While Real Madrid seems in pole position to seduce French, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool intend to compete for its signature this summer.

Lukeba very coveted despite an extended contract

Aged 22, Lukeba extended his contract with Leipzig in October 2024, binding it to the club until 2029. This new clause includes a liberation clause set at 90 million euros, activated this summer. An ambitious amount, but that the player and his representatives believe to be feasible, given the massive interest aroused. Despite this commitment, the Frenchman, eager to cross a level, already plans a departure. According to Bild, his dream would be to join Real Madrid, which is interested and today faced with a defensive crisis with the injuries of Eder Militão, David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger.

The Premier League in ambush

However, Real will not be alone in the running. Manchester United, in particular, seeks to strengthen his defense: Lisandro Martinez was injured until 2025, while Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans could leave the club freely. Chelsea, for its part, has followed the file closely since 2023 and has formalized its interest, just like Liverpool, in search of defensive stability. The three English clubs have the financial means to trigger the clause, even if the Red Devils could hesitate in front of this amount, tried high for a defender.

RB Leipzig, known for its lucrative sales, could be forced to give up Lukeba to balance his accounts after the record purchase of Xavi Simons (€ 50 million) and the planned sale of Benjamin Sesko (€ 65 million). The German club, currently in difficulty in the Bundesliga, focuses on the qualification in the Champions League to influence its strategy, but a non-qualification would probably accelerate the departure of Lukeba.

A talent to polish

Despite recurring muscular problems this season (only 11 games in the Bundesliga), Lukeba remains a jewel: natural, fast left, skits in duels and precise in recovery (70% of successive successful passes), he embodies the modern defender. Silver medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games, he has only a selection of the French team, but his potential is widely recognized.

The race promises to be tight, but Real Madrid, in an urgent need and accustomed to the big checks, a favorite leaves. It remains to be seen if the English giants will be able to get ahead of it … or if Leipzig will resist until the end.
