Hannibal Mejri, Burnley's midfielder, ex-player of AS Monaco (between 2017 and 2019), said he received racist insults from an opponent this Sunday. Opposed to Preston North End, in a championship meeting, the Clarets conceded the point of the draw (0-0), but it was this incident between the Franco-Tunisian and the Milutin Osmajic striker who is talking.
In the 57th minute of the game, Mejbri asked the arbitral body to stop the match, saying that OSMAJIC had uttered racial insults. It is difficult to distinguish on the video what the Preston striker says precisely, nor in which language he addresses Hannibal Mejbri, but the latter's reaction is surprising enough for the situation to challenge.
A “disgusting” abuse
In a message posted on his X account, Mejbri said:
“I will not remain silent today. I will always criticize racism when I hear it or see it. This is the only way to change things in sport and in society. I am a strong person, but no one should have to experience such a disgusting abuse on the ground ”.
Burnley published a press release to support his player and a complaint was filed with the match referee Andrew Kitchen, so that he relays him to the competent authorities.
