World Cup, the big decision of Saudi Arabia

Alcohol will not be authorized during the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia, the country's ambassador told the United Kingdom.

The country of the Middle East was awarded the organization of the tournament in December after submitting the only candidacy to welcome it, which aroused criticism against FIFA because of the country's assessment in matters of human rights and the treatment of the LGBTQ+community.

Alcohol is currently prohibited in Saudi Arabia, but the country does not intend to follow the example of Qatar, host country of 2022, which made it available in supporters but not interior of stages. According to Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Al Saud, supporters will have to take advantage of alcohol -free festivities.

A World Cup without alcohol

“For the moment, we do not allow alcohol”, said the ambassador to LBC. “We can have fun without alcohol – it is not necessary at 100 % and if you want to drink after your departure, you are welcome, but for the moment, we have no alcohol.”

He added: ” Everyone has their own culture. We are happy to welcome people within the limits of our culture, but we don't want to change our culture for someone else … I mean, seriously? Can't we live without drinking? »»
