An investigation into an alleged poor monetary management at the Etihad stadium was opened in 2018, and this process was finally completed in February 2023. An independent audience on allegations against City was concluded in December 2024.

City is still waiting for a verdict, Pep Guardiola who said: ”
In a month, I think there will be a verdict and a sentence. After that, we will see my opinion on what has happened so far. »» Various sanctions continue to be speculation.

It has been suggested that City could be stung with heavy points, embargoes on transfers or demotion outside the English elite. It is claimed that Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United have already registered for possible compensation if City is found guilty of having violated the rules of financial fair play.

Compensation in Europe?

According to Football Insider, “European clubs could also submit compensation requests against Manchester City if they can prove that alleged violations have had a negative impact on them financially.” The Blues won the Champions League, reached another final, a semi-final and four quarter-finals under the reign of Guardiola.

While the rivals are ready to take measures against City, Football Insider adds that “Lawyers should call on any potential sanction after the club was categorical that he has done nothing wrong since the charges were brought two years ago.”
