An ever more busy calendar
It must be said that last season, only three games were up to overtime in the Champions League, four in the Europa League. During the 2022-2023 season, no C1 meeting was played in 120 minutes, against six in C3.
The idea of withdrawing extensions on the European scene aims to lighten the physical efforts made by the players, who are still playing more matches. As a reminder, the FFF has already removed extensions in the French Cup, while in England, it was decided to withdraw the “replays” in FA Cup.
